Action reminder: Government Autumn & Winter COVID Plan: Plan B Certification Proposals & Consultation
The government has published their proposals for a mandated COVID certification scheme for venues and businesses, to be implemented as a ‘Plan B’ to the current Autumn & Winter Plan if case rates rise. The proposals can be found here.

As currently drafted, we believe that theatres will not fall into any mandatory certification regime proposed, although venues continue to be encouraged to run voluntary schemes.

SOLT & UK Theatre will be responding to the call for evidence on these proposals. Should you have any particular concerns that you believe would be worth including in our response please email david@soltukt.co.uk. Should you wish to submit your own response to the call for evidence you can do so here (closes 11 October 2021).

See It Safely reminder and updated video
We have updated the See it Safely animated video to remove mention of social distancing. You can download the videos from the See it Safely toolkit, or you can use the below YouTube links:

As a reminder, here are the safety requirements of the See it Safely scheme:

  • Your venue will follow the relevant Government guidance in relation to the safe return of audiences to venues, and you fully understand how this applies to your operations.
  • You have provided adequate ventilation.
  • There are procedures in place to encourage and communicate social distancing measures where appropriate, and the wearing of face coverings.
  • You have a nominated employee who is responsible for checking, understanding and implementing the relevant guidance.
  • You have completed a
  • RiskAssessment for your operations specifically related to COVID-19.
  • Your employees have been consulted and trained on the COVID measures which you are planning to implement.
  • In areas where there is a high risk of transmission by touching surfaces (e.g. entrances and exits), you have considered making available hand-washing or hand-sanitising stations.
  • You have considered the particular needs of different groups of workers or individuals when making COVID adjustments (e.g. hand sanitizing stations placed in accessible areas in your venue). It is breaking the law to discriminate, directly or indirectly, against anyone because of a protected characteristic.

If you have any questions on See it Safely, please email Phill Brown, Head of Risk and Safety.
