How we listen

One of the reasons this community first came together was to address the powerlessness that freelancers were feeling during COVID. Separated and alone, we felt out of the loop and unheard. We were unaware of what, if any, conversations were being had about the future of the industry.

Freelancers Make Theatre Work was created to listen to the community and give the freelance workforce a voice.

Now is the time for us to contribute to the discussion using the strength of our collective voice.

Whether in person, online or via our annual Big Freelancer Survey, FMTW is actively listening to the concerns of freelancers and feeding them back to industry bodies, organizations, and government. Our diverse network of creatives, cast, backstage workers, producers, and more regularly meets to discuss the pressing issues affecting our industry and its workers.

Everyone involved in Freelancers Make Theatre Work is an active members of our industry. We keep an ear to the gound, both in person and online. The experiences we have and hear directly feed into our lobbying of theatre managements, production companies, industry bodies and government.
