Campaigns and Legal Support

Acting Together on The World Stage
The Acting Together initiative documents how divided communities in more than a dozen conflict regions across the globe draw on the power of performance to transform conflict.
The Acting Together DOCUMENTARY tells the stories of performances enacted to build peace. The highlighted artists and peacebuilders offer vivid firsthand accounts and analyses of peacebuilding performances that speak truths in the face of denial, restore dignity in the face of violation, and build bridges of respect where relationships have been broken.

Artists at Risk Connection (ARC)
Artists at Risk Connection (ARC) safeguards the right to artistic freedom of expression and ensures that artists and cultural professionals everywhere can live and work without fear. Our ultimate goal is to address the needs of artists at risk and the organisations that serve them.
ARC primarily achieves this by:
— ASSISTING persecuted artists by connecting them to our growing global network of resources
— FACILITATING cooperation among human rights and art organisations
— AMPLIFYING the stories and work of at-risk artists as well as raising visibility of the field of artistic freedom

Heritage For Peace
We are an international group of heritage workers who believe that cultural heritage is a common ground for dialogue and a tool to build peace. Our mission is to support heritage workers, indifferent of citizenship or religion, as they work towards the protection of cultural heritage for future generations.
Currently our efforts are focused on Syria, where the ongoing conflict has damaged numerous sites including World Heritage sites, threatened museums and libraries, and led to an epidemic of looting and illegal trade in artifacts. Yet, in our experience we also learned that many contending parties consider Syria’s heritage crucial for the country’s present and future. Heritage for Peace is impartial in the conflict; our programs are focused on supporting heritage professionals to deal with the unique challenges of protecting monuments, sites, museums and libraries during armed conflict, and on educating all military forces on their obligation to protect Syria’s precious cultural heritage under international law.

Migrate Art
We unite the artworld to help displaced people rebuild their lives, piece by piece.

Musicians Artists at Risk Resettlement Scheme
MARRS was first set up in 2021 in response to protect Afghan Musicians. A shared Northern Ireland - Afghanistan Music project was the connection.
Musicians/Artists in asylum seeking & refugee status from other countries of origin started reaching out to us for support, so MARRS opened to all seeking sanctuary.
The aim of the campaign is to support and to secure humanitarian protection for all endangered artists

Artistic Freedom Initiative
Led by immigration and human rights attorneys, Artistic Freedom Initiative (AFI) facilitates pro bono immigration representation and resettlement assistance for international artists who are persecuted or censored.
Dedicated to safeguarding the right to artistic freedom, AFI was founded on the notion that artists are uniquely situated to positively and powerfully effect change, provided their voices can be heard. As artists are increasingly censored, imprisoned, restricted from moving freely across borders, tortured, or even killed, it is more critical than ever that we safeguard the right to artistic freedom and zealously champion the courageous artists who exercise it.
To this end, AFI directly assists artists who have experienced persecution, censorship, or other restrictions on their freedom of expression, and supports artists who have demonstrated a commitment to advancing progressive social change and fundamental human rights.
We work with immigrant artists to champion art produced in exile, advance creative cultural exchange, improve conditions for artists in their home countries, and safeguard their ability to express themselves creatively through the arts.

Avant-Garde Lawyers
Artists should enjoy greater levels of protections for their involvement in matters of general interest and contribution to public debate, essential in a free and open society.
AGL have the skills necessary to solve complex legal issues and navigate international legal instruments to effectively protect the rights of creators active within a variety of artistic domains. In order to be able to offer artists the legal support they need and deserve, AGL partners include large law firms and networks of lawyers and experts.
We promote Pro Bono culture.
Money should never be the reason why an artist cannot afford legal support. This is crucial to us, Avant-Garde Lawyers. As members of a profession bound by ethical rules, we aspire to use the Law to ensure access to justice for artists in situations of increased vulnerability. It is in this spirit that we promote pro bono culture for the benefit of artists and artistic endeavors. Our work “translates” the law and makes legal processes related to art more transparent and accessible to artists.
