The Ruling Class - Copyright Matt Humphrey

Freelancing can be creative, flexible and rewarding, but the practical side is often learned through trial and error. Freelancing 101 is a UK-wide starting point for freelancers across theatre and the performing arts, whatever their role, discipline or career stage.

This hub brings together introductory guidance on practical issues many freelancers share. It is designed to help you understand what to ask, what to prepare, how to approach your own professional responsibilities and where to find further support.

Choose the section that best matches what you need help with today. If you are completely new to freelancing, follow our five starting steps. The hub provides general information and signposting. It cannot cover every role, discipline or individual situation, and it does not provide individual legal, tax, financial or medical advice.
