Every six weeks, Freelancers Make Theatre Work meets with representatives of DCMS, Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport – The department of English government that focuses on culture, arts, media, sports, tourism and civil society.

These productive meetings are used to share insight we have gathered from the freelance community and feed it directly into DCMS decisions, strategy and policy making. It is an important and valuable relationship and one we are keen to continue.

Due to the General Election being held on July 4th, the meetings have been paused. This is normal practice during an election campaign and is known as ‘purdah.’

Purdah: Government and local authority resources cannot be used for party political campaigning at any time. In the run up to an election, the pre-election period of sensitivity, particular care is taken. Government departments and councils will normally observe discretion about making new announcements or decisions that could influence voters.
